27 April, Saturday Shred-Fest!
This year’s “Shred-Fest” is hosted by Columbia Bank (columbiabank.com) at their High School Road Branch Parking Lot (across from Safeway), and put on by the Kiwanis Club Of Bainbridge Island (bikiwanis.org). Bring all your expired vital records and watch them shredded into the big truck! This has been a public service announcement courtesy of BBC, Columbia Bank, the B.I. Kiwanis Club, and … and various sentient sapients from planet Earth.

And a Word on Shreding documents from our own Karla Smith, BBC, OXp, XLR8, CPA, who says “Numbers don’t have to be scarry!”
Taxes are filed and spring-cleaning through your papers are a good next step! But what papers to shred (at the April 27th Shred-Fest) and what to keep, you might be wondering. Here’s a quick list for your personal papers to help you get the shredding bag filled for this weekend’s Shredfest.
To keep forever: Contracts and Real Estate Records.
Ownership period, plus 7 years: Investment and Home improvement records.
Until Paid Off: Mortgage statements, student loan payments, car loan payments.
4 Years: Tax returns & supporting documentation, cancelled checks, deposit slips & bank statements.
Keep the last one of each year while in the job “pay stubs.”
1 year (personal accounts): Credit card statements, past insurance statements, old utility bills, other recently paid bills.
