Is Island Power Right For Bainbridge? Get the full story from Jane Lindley and Steve Johnson, co-founders of Island Power.
Island Power is an initiative to put a measure on the next possible ballot to create a municipal electric utility. Greener power, local control, jobs: “…there is a clear and compelling relationship between public ownership and the ability of communities to get off of dirty energy.” (Naomi Klein, This Changes Everything.)
Jane Lindley is also the past president of Sustainable Bainbridge. Bainbridge resident for over 20 years, Jane has volunteered for the past 5 years for a number of local nonprofits, including Bainbridge Island Land Trust, Great Peninsula Conservancy, and Arms Around Bainbridge. Prior to that Jane worked as the Director of Development and Operations for a software company outside of Boston, MA. Jane on LinkedIn linkedin.com/in/superwebgroup.
Stephen Johnson was for 23 years the executive director of the Washington Public Utilities Districts Association, the state’s leading public power advocacy organization. Prior to that he taught political science for 11 years at the University of Alaska. He’s lived on Bainbridge Island since 1986. Island Power: island-power.org.
