BBC Friday 20 April 2015 – The BARN Does BBC – w/ director Michael Odland

barn_logo2This BBC Friday, members of the Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network will tell their story and share their vision. Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network — ‘BARN’ — is a non-profit formed to build and operate an artisan center on Bainbridge Island” (bainbridgebarn.org/about-barn/). The BARN on Facebook.

Come and explore the remarkable affinities between OfficeXpats, BBC, and the BARN, vis-a-vis business models, coworking communities, and serendipitous creativity.  “Louie, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

MOdlandMichael Odland: “I will discuss BARN’s origins and aims and how you can get engaged.” With a degree in cognitive science, Michael is BARN board member and a tinkerer in the Electronic Arts. Living on the island for two and a half years working as a freelancer and technology consultant, Michael recently 3d-scanned a beloved pet and had it 3d-printed over the internet where it now “lives” and plays. “BARN is a mysterious acronym. It is an up and coming island hotbed for artisans. It is a resource of students, mentors, and tools. It is a network of people open to the possibility of cross-pollinating ideas amidst crafts and multiple generations. BARN has ten craft areas coming together under one roof: woodworking, metal machining, welding, jewelry, glass, fiber arts, electronic and technical arts, printmaking and book arts, writing, and kitchen arts.” (Michael’s LinkedIn.)

OXp WON!  OfficeXpats is the 2014 Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year! “It was an honor just to be nominated, and it is kinda crazy that we actually won. We are very excited. This award is based on contribution to the Chamber’s mission, and to the Bainbridge community at large. In our case, it is therefore connected in so many ways to the efforts of our devoted team of ambassadors, and to an informal offshoot of the Chamber, the Bainbridge Business Connection, which meets every Friday morning at OfficeXpats. I’m sure we got a lot of credit for hosting BBC, but the reverse is also true: BBC is a huge supporter of OfficeXpats. I’m very proud of the ongoing partnership.”
