It’s the thick of Autumn here at BBC, and we have a great topic this week about changes in the Federal Dept Of Labor (DOL) which could affect many of us.
If you are an independent contractor/consultant, or hire independent contractors, or if you have employees or will ever have employees, then you should be aware of changes the Federal Department of Labor has been working on this past year.
Two changes in particular could impact millions of workers and most businesses. Both changes are designed to help provide a fair workplace for employees, but could have significant impact on small businesses. We will discuss the DOL’s definition of what qualifies one to be an independent contractor or consultant as well as proposed changes to the Fair Labor Standards Act regarding Wage & Hour laws which will dramatically impact the number of employees who are exempt from overtime pay, breaks, and meal periods.
