4 Feb. 2011 – “Your Board Of Directors”

BBC Business Brainstorming Session

We will be doing a Creative Strategy Roundtable this Friday. We have a new business startup among two BBCers, and the rest of us will be Their Board Of Directors. BBC Regular Leslie Schneider and her business associate Jason Omens are starting an interesting new venture here on Bainbridge. In helping one another brainstorm business issues, we help each other. (Did I just say that? But it sounds good, right?)

OfficeXpats on Bainbridge is a response to the growing need for an intermediate solution between working at the corporate office in Seattle (or beyond) and working from home. OfficeXpats is a flexible, shared office environment concept that meets the community, technology, and conferencing needs of remote workers, independent consultants, and entrepreneurs, with easy access to Winslow business district services and ferry transportation. OfficeXpats is an office away from the office, with features of a business membership club, an Internet café, the library, the airport VIP/Red Carpet club, and the new trend of coworking. Full time and part time memberships offer different levels of service for those who want to escape the distractions and isolation of working from home but need more flexibility than renting their own office space. OfficeXpats can support hundreds of Bainbridge Islanders needing flexible access to professional work spaces, conference rooms, and other business services: officexpats.com (also on Facebook).

Jason Omens has performed IT management, network administration, and operations management for small to midsized companies for over two decades. He has a passion for building secure, highly reliable information technology infrastructures, and was recently interviewed by Gartner to give views on their Magic Quadrant for SMB multifunction firewalls, and also by Biztech Magazine and Information Security Magazine about unified threat management. He is a Microsoft Partner (Silver Enterprise Resource Planning and Small Business Specialist competencies) with several certifications including MCSE, MCDBA, and MCP. (Note: Jason is a passionate beekeeper with 1.5 years of experience and one honey harvest under his belt.)

Leslie Schneider is a marketing and communications specialist with a history of building community. Leslie has worked with both start-ups and software giants offering messaging, marketing collateral, and training development. She is also a founding member and ‘graduate’ of Cohousing, having developed and then lived in Jackson Place Cohousing (near downtown Seattle) for eight years. She served on the cohousing development LLC managing board for five years and was the owner’s representative for the 27-unit condominium construction. (Note: Leslie has done the STP, Seattle-To-Portland bike ride — three times!)

Remember we are still in a BYOB mode – bring your own breakfast, coffee, tea. (PS. if anyone has any ideas to get food/coffee/tea service to our BBC Fridays, suggestions are very welcome! …please please please!)
